Biography
Chris and husband, Bill, arrived in AAC, in 1971 and remain a mainstay of community tennis in Anne Arundel County. Chris earned numerous titles playing in hundreds of USTA sanctioned and local tournaments over a 40-year period. Chris won the Mid-Atlantic championship for her age group (45 & over) in 1998. She was invited to represent the Mid-Atlantic region in intersectional competitions in Houston, Naples, and San Antonio at age 45, 55 and 65. Chris was named Sportsperson of the Year by the Maryland Tennis Association in 2005.
As an AACTA officer, Chris ran the ladder and typed the newsletters jointly with Bill (one read aloud, the other typed). As a leader, Chris has contributed to every aspect of maintaining AACTA and non-AACTA tennis activities by managing tournaments, ladders, scoring, captaining and playing on multiple highly successful teams, winning multiple awards for sportsmanship and contributions to the game and the tennis community. She was a director of City of Annapolis tournaments (often with up to 200 players) for almost 20 years.
Chris volunteers with the Tennis Alliance Free Family Tennis program at Truxton Park on weekends and pitches in when needed with other Tennis Alliance programs, such as Special Olympics. Chris has been the public player “rep” to Annapolis R&P to acquire grants for the Truxton Park courts, monitor and maintain all courts and facilities needs, negotiate usage agreements, and fundraise for repairs. Chris organized the Truxtun Park Tennis Court Beautification Project, GreenScape for over 20 years. She works discreetly “under the radar” and always gets the job done.
