Randall “Randy”
STEVENS
Class of 2025
Biography
When farm boy and Michigan State grad Randy Stevens moved to tropical Anne Arundel County to teach at Old Mill High School in 1975, he knew nothing about tennis! When asked to help coach sports, he jumped right in and soon became a certified professional and Head Coach for teams winning County, Regional and State titles.
In 1988, Randy purchased Totally Tennis Pro Shop at Big Vanilla Racquet club supplying AAC a tennis shop, lessons, pros and tournaments for juniors for 35 years. He started the Annapolis Junior Open, a hallmark of the summer tennis circuit for juniors with 100+ participants each year.
Randy later moved to Broadneck High School, helped develop an award-winning biology program and received the Maryland Biology Teacher of the Year award for his dedication to teaching AP Biology to young people. He continued his tennis work coaching Severn School and Spalding High School teams and running Patapsco Valley Junior Tennis League and Crofton Swim and Tennis Club programs.
When Totally Tennis moved to Severn Valley Tennis and Fitness Club, Randy became General Manager, Tournament Director and Tennis Pro. After retiring from teaching he took on the role of City of Annapolis Recreation and Parks Tennis Director, running adult and junior clinics, as well as summer camps for 10 years. When Severn Valley closed, Randy became a certified USTA and ITA Umpire/Referee. He was named as one of the nation’s top 10 Tournament Directors while working at Green Spring.
Randy has served on the Tennis Alliance Board, runs the Tennis Alliance RecycleBall program, and has had many roles at AACTA. He is a referee for Anne Arundel County Public Schools, the USTA, ATMO, ITA and Big 10 matches. Randy has supported tennis in all shapes and forms. As a player, contributor, organizer, entrepreneur, Randy is always there to answer the call.
