Biography
John started tennis hitting tennis balls at age 10, while vacationing in Michigan with his parents. He captained his high school team in Fairborn, Ohio and then went to Ohio State.
After graduation from college, John served a full career in the U.S. Army as a Helicopter Pilot. While stationed in Fort Hood Texas, he was the President of the Fort Hood Tennis Club.
John moved to the Annapolis, Anne Arundel County area in 1980, joined the “Tennis Patrons of Anne Arundel” (TPAA) and soon became its President. From 1990 John has been committed to organizing and playing on multiple USTA Teams. He has captained over thirty teams at the 18 and over, 40 & over, 55 & over, 60 and over and eventually 65 & over. In 2008, John Captained the 3.5/7.0 Men’s Adult Team which won the league, won the Sectionals and eventually won 3rd place in the National Invitationals in Surprise, AZ.
In 2022 John was still active competing in USTA Leagues in Anne Arundel when he suffered his first of several cerebral strokes. Even with that challenge, John did not stop. John continues to support a loyal group of players as he organizes Block Time for tennis at the Navy Brigade Tennis Center as a retired Army Officer with Brigade privileges.
John is a lifelong tennis player, a true leader, an organizer, a supporter, an excellent competitor, a man of high integrity and a beloved friend of all who have been around Anne Arundel County tennis for so many great years.
