Tom Walsh

Leading 100+ Teams with Integrity, Passion, and Community Spirit

As a retired Anne Arundel County educator, Tom Walsh’s dedication to mentoring others has defined his entire life on and off the court. A former head high school soccer and tennis coach, Tom’s leadership earned him the respect of his peers, who elected him as the county’s first representative to the Maryland State Tennis Tournament Committee and as a representative to the Prince George’s Athletic Association.

Tom’s competitive credentials are staggering. A Senior Olympic medalist with gold, silver, and bronze hardware, he is one of the most prolific captains in local history. Having captained 77 USTA teams and co-captained another 31, Tom has guided squads to 27 District Tournaments and 17 Sectional Tournaments. Most remarkably, he has led 3.0 level teams to the USTA National Championships 11 times. Yet, despite all the high-stakes hardware, Tom is most renowned among players and opponents for his unflinching sportsmanship, famously conceding points whenever a call is in doubt.

Off the court, Tom has been a vital advocate for local players. Working alongside the Tennis Alliance, he championed the development of a year-round tennis facility, becoming a respected community voice in meetings with county leadership. He also worked directly with county officials to advocate for local teams regarding public court fees.

Today, Tom serves on the AACTA Board of Directors, organizing monthly tennis socials that bring together players of all skill levels, and served on the Tennis Alliance Hall of Fame Selection Committee for 2025 and 2026. Tom remains a cornerstone of the Anne Arundel County tennis community: a master captain, advocate, and true sportsman.
