Biography
Michael Heup is a Special Olympics athlete. Tennis is his main sport, and he has represented Anne Arundel County at State and National tournaments and has won numerous Gold Medals in Special Olympics Tennis.
Michael is an exceptionally engaging speaker. He has been chosen to represent Special Olympics athletes at State, National, and International events as an ambassador, and motivational speaker. He carried the Special Olympics World Games Torch through Annapolis.
Michael has even spoken at the White House. A Capital Gazette story about Michael reads, “Annapolis Bitty & Beau’s employee steals show at White House briefing on coronavirus. It’s hard to steal the show when President Donald Trump is involved, but Michael Heup was up to the task.”
Put very simply, when Michael walks into the room, everyone – family, friends, spectators, teammates, competitors – feels good. His teammates root and cheer for him and he gives back ten-fold with his enthusiasm and goodwill. While no athlete is the same, they all have a few things in common; determination, dedication, and desire. Michael Heup applied all three of these characteristics and achieved the ultimate reward, becoming a world-class athlete and spokesperson for Special Olympics Maryland (SOMD).
