Tom Schneider

Setting the Standard for Excellence in Sectional and National Play

Tom Schneider’s journey of service began as a Vietnam Combat Marine (1968–1974) and continued through a distinguished career as a Special Agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms. He first picked up a racquet while stationed in Quantico, Virginia, in the early 1970s, but his competitive drive fully took off a few years later on the Cincinnati Ski Club challenge ladder. Before moving to Anne Arundel County in 1992, Tom was already a decorated player in Ohio, capturing a Gold Medal at the 1986 Ohio Police Olympics and competing on multiple Volvo 4.0 teams.

After joining the local tennis scene, Tom quickly established himself as a dominant force in USTA league play. In 2009, he captained his first Senior and Super Senior teams to the Mid-Atlantic Sectionals, launching a legendary run. Since then, “Team Schneider” has sent at least one team to Sectionals nearly every single year, claiming four Sectional Championships to advance to the USTA National Tournament and finishing as Sectional Finalists at least 15 times. When local league slots were limited, Tom got creative. He founded the “Anne Arundel 8.0” squad in Howard County in 2019, which won the league and advanced all the way to Sectionals. In 2025, he guided his Howard County 8.0 team back to the National stage.

On the tournament circuit, Tom teamed up with fellow legends to take top honors, including the 2014 AACTA 7.0 Fall Tournament with Bill Dodd and the 2019 7.5 Fall Tournament with Steve Newcomer.

Tom’s impact off the court is just as profound. A tireless community advocate, he has assisted the Tennis Alliance in running clinics for underprivileged youth, coached Special Olympics athletes for four years, and helped craft the original criteria for the Anne Arundel County Tennis Hall of Fame. Since 2021, he has organized weekly recreation matches at Bowie Sport Fit, and currently serves as a Volunteer Assistant Varsity Coach at Annapolis Area Christian School.

Whether leading teams to Nationals or mentoring young athletes, Tom embodies the true spirit of dedication and sportsmanship.
